Twin Rivers Adult School
Ahmad Shahram Nasiri’s story shows how determination, education and service can transform lives. After arriving in Sacramento as a refugee from Afghanistan, Ahmad worked to rebuild his future while adapting to a new language, culture and community.
At Twin Rivers Adult School, Ahmad began in the English as a Second Language program and quickly advanced to dual enrollment in the High School Completion Program. Already fluent in two languages, he learned English as his third and earned his high school diploma through persistence and hard work.
Ahmad also became a leader in the school community, often serving as an interpreter for classmates and helping them feel welcome and supported. His kindness and leadership led to his selection as the school’s Pledge of Allegiance presenter, a symbol of his confidence and belonging.
Adult education also led Ahmad to meaningful employment at Twin Rivers Adult School, where he first served as a Paraeducator Specialist supporting students with similar challenges and later earned a promotion to Data Management Assistant.
Now accepted to American River College, Ahmad plans to study toward becoming a school counselor. As a student, employee, mentor and future educator, he reflects the power of education to build confidence, create opportunity and inspire others.
