San Mateo Adult and Career Education
Alexander Clemente always knew he wanted to do something meaningful with his life. Born in Guatemala, he was raised by his grandparents and worked hard to support his family. At 16, he immigrated to the United States determined to pursue a career in medicine. At San Mateo Adult School, he overcame language barriers through ESL classes and earned his GED in just three months. Alexander later graduated from UC Santa Cruz with degrees in Molecular Biology and Cognitive Science. Now, he helps train aspiring healthcare workers and hopes to become a doctor serving immigrant and underserved communities.
“I’m very glad that I’m able to do the things that I’m able to do. And I’m really proud of myself that I’m not only planning or wanting to do something, but I’m actually doing it.”
