Norwalk-La Mirada Adult School
Stephen Hughes was nominated for the California Adult Education Students Succeed award based on his exceptional performance and dedication.
In his second semester at Norwalk-La Mirada Adult School, he maintained perfect attendance and demonstrated a strong work ethic and eagerness for knowledge.
He consistently asks insightful questions about welding, drawing from both recent lectures and his own research. Despite a challenging past and previous incarceration, Stephen is resolute in turning his life around. He is highly regarded by his peers for his reliability and willingness to assist others, always volunteering for tasks and contributing positively to the class environment.
During his first semester, he earned his initial AWS certification by passing a hands-on weld test. Currently, he is pursuing another AWS certification with the GMAW process and has shown interest in obtaining a Los Angeles City Department of Building & Safety license. He is actively seeking employment as a welder or welder's helper. Given his commitment and attitude, he would be a valuable addition to any team.
“I had been filling my mind and soul with trash. Now, I’m involved in something productive, learning something new, and striving to make a career.”
