All school leaders invited to ACSA’s online Leadership Assembly Feb. 13
4 reasons to attend this virtual governance meeting
February 3, 2025
ACSA is inviting all school leaders to attend its upcoming virtual governance meeting to get access to top state officials, crucial professional learning topics, and the inner workings of the association.
ACSA’s February Leadership Assembly will be held online from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13. ACSA members should have received an e-mail invitation to attend the event and are encouraged to share this invitation with non-members who are interested in attending.
For the second year, ACSA is broadening access to this governance meeting to increase engagement among administrators.
“We look forward to welcoming school leaders to our virtual governance meeting so that we can share important and timely information that all administrators need right now,” said ACSA President Rafael Plascencia. “We invite anyone who is not yet a part of the ACSA family to join us and see our mission in action as we seek to develop, empower and inspire equity-minded educational leaders.”
Here are a few reasons to attend this online meeting:
1. A conversation with Attorney General Rob Bonta
Members will hear from State Attorney General Rob Bonta, who will speak on California’s efforts to protect the state and its citizens from adverse actions by the federal government.
2. Professional development
Attendees will learn up-to-the-moment information during a panel discussion titled “Navigating Immigration Changes: Experts Reflect on Supporting Undocumented Students and Families.” Panelists will be:
- Adam Clark, superintendent of Mount Diablo Unified School District.
- Joshua Whiteside, attorney at Lozano Smith.
- Stephanie Graves, CEO of the Lee Andrews Group.
There will also be a wellness presentation on “10 Microhabits to Avoid Burnout, Boost Collaboration and Thrive!” presented by Thriving Schools.

3. Meet candidates for ACSA Offices
Members will hear presentations from the two candidates running for ACSA’s 2025-26 Vice President: Terrence Davis, superintendent, Banning USD (Region 19); and Roxane Fuentes, superintendent, Berryessa Union School District (Region 8).
This year, ACSA delegates will also be voting for the office of Vice President for Legislative Action, which is a two-year term. There is one candidate running for VPLA, Jared Hungerford, associate superintendent, Calaveras County Office of Education (Region 7). ACSA delegates will vote for the office of Vice President and Vice President for Legislative Action during the May Leadership Assembly.
4. Legislative updates
Attendees will get to hear the latest on the state budget proposal and current legislation, as well as an update on ACSA’s Legislative Action Days scheduled for March 17-18 in Sacramento. ACSA’s Leadership Assembly delegates will also approve the 2025-26 One Voice for Students Legislative Platform, which guides ACSA’s advocacy work.
ACSA Leadership Assembly meetings are held three times each year in October, February and May. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, ACSA started holding its February governance meeting virtually. In 2024, ACSA decided to open this meeting to a wider audience.
The Leadership Assembly is composed of members of the ACSA Board of Directors, chairs of state committees, presidents of state councils and a delegation from each region that consists of the region’s president, president-elect and vice president for legislative action, or a designee. Additional region delegates are determined by the regions. The number is based on the regular membership of each region — regions with more members have more delegates and more votes.
