Students from nine Calaveras County schools competed in the 5th annual Battle of the Books event on Jan. 17.
This annual event offered by the Calaveras County Office of Education encouraged students in grades four through eight to read books and then test their knowledge in a team-based competition.
A total of 81 students answered questions about book titles and authors, as well as content from the books during two competitions. In the Relay Challenge, students sprinted across the gym floor to receive a question from a judge.
Students then had to decide to answer the question themselves or run back to consult their teammates. They also had a “Family Feud” style competition where teams went head-to-head to test their knowledge.
