CAAASA conference announces Kaepernick, Lhamon as keynotes
Annual conference to discuss ‘Equity and Education Since Brown v. Board’

The California Association of African American Superintendents and Administrators has just announced Colin Kaepernick and Catherine E. Lhamon as keynote speakers for the association’s annual conference.
The 2026 CAAASA Professional Development Summit will be held March 18–20 in Anaheim. Join educators and leaders from across California to explore this year’s theme, “Equity and Education Since Brown v. Board – Where Do We Go From Here?”
Attendees will hear from Kaepernick, the legendary NFL quarterback, philanthropist and founder of Lumi Story AI, and Lhamon, the former assistant secretary for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Education and current executive director, Edley Center on Law & Democracy at UC Berkeley School of Law.
They will be joined by several distinguished speakers, including:
- Alberto Carvalho, superintendent of Los Angeles Unified School District;
- Dr. Chike Akua, assistant professor of educational leadership at Clark Atlanta University;
- Dr. Bonita Coleman, chief advanced leadership strategist;
- Dr. Christopher J. Nellum, executive director of EdTrust-West.
Immediately preceding the event on March 17, there will be a Youth Leadership Summit with motivational speakers, student talent showcase and a college meet and greet for a $95 registration fee. There will also be a Parent Empowerment Summit for African American and other parents of color, which will feature motivational speakers, parent engagement workshops and educational materials. Registration for this event in $195.
Also on March 17, the Women’s Professional Leadership Forum invites attendees for a breakfast keynote, sister circles, networking, and plenary sessions. Registration for this forum is $400.
