Assembly Bill 1667 was signed into law by Gov. Gavin Newsom last year and seeks to provide remedies for calculation errors related to CalSTRS benefits. Most of the bill took effect Jan. 1, 2023, with some provisions taking effect July 1, 2023. It’s important to note that the new law addressing benefit overpayments and audits applies prospectively. CalSTRS has provided helpful FAQ documents for both LEAs and STRS members to navigate the future changes.
General FAQ for Members (active and retiree)
Additional FAQ on Adjustments and Overpayments for Members
General FAQ for Employer Agencies
CalSTRS will be issuing additional guidance for employers and members in the coming months as they move toward full implementation.
