The following was submitted by the nonprofit Code.org.
Code.org has launched a groundbreaking initiative to foster greater inclusion and diversity in computer science education: the Computer Science Ambassador Program. We’re inviting school leaders to be a part of this transformative movement.
As you strive to expand access to computer science within your district, it’s crucial to consider and overcome the barriers that young women may encounter when deciding whether to pursue computer science courses. Currently, only 5 percent of high school-aged women take computer science classes, perpetuating a participation gap that extends into college and the workforce. But together we can change that narrative.
The CS Ambassador Program is specifically crafted to empower educators to increase the enrollment of young women in computer science courses. By leveraging the power of near-peer allies, known as CS Ambassadors, we aim to boost confidence and participation among young women, thereby bridging the gender gap in this vital field.
Here’s how you can get involved:
Nominate students in your school: Encourage your CS teachers to visit www.code.org/youngwomen and nominate a student today. The priority deadline for nominations is June 28.
Learn more: Dive deeper into the program by watching the recording of our CS Ambassador Code Chat. This insightful session features a panel of high school student CS Ambassadors sharing their experiences.
Engage with us: Have questions or ideas about how the CS Ambassador Program can support the specific needs of your district? Reach out to us at youngwomen@code.org. We’re here to support and collaborate with you every step of the way.
Thank you for joining us in empowering the next generation of young women in computer science. Together, we can break down barriers, foster inclusivity, and pave the way for a brighter, more diverse future in tech.
