12th grade, Mission Oak High School, Tulare Joint Union HSD
Leonor Quiroz has been fighting for herself from day one. Exposed to domestic violence at an early age, Leonor ran away during her sophomore year. After a harrowing experience on the streets and a violent attack in which she was stabbed 16 times, she entered the foster care system. Leonor found stability and unconditional love from the Silva family. Thanks to their support along with the dedicated staff at Mission Oak High, she earned her high school diploma in June. This fall, Leonor plans to attend the College of the Sequoias and pursue a career in nursing. Despite her hardships, she’s determined to help others and make a difference in the world.
“I think I want to help people most because I didn’t get the help that I needed [when] I was younger. So I want to be able to give others opportunity to have somebody.”
