12th grade, Dos Puertas Juvenile Court School, Santa Barbara CEO
Family can come from unexpected places, and for Miguel Rivera, that meant finding strength in himself and support from those who truly cared. Raised in an environment of violence and abandonment, Miguel felt lost and was drawn into gang life as a teenager. But he reached a turning point and chose to take control of his future. Along the way, people like Hope School District Superintendent Anne Hubbard played a crucial role, offering the care and guidance he needed. From excelling in school to enduring painful tattoo removals, each step marked his commitment to change. Miguel is now determined to inspire others to rise above their circumstances.
“What matters is what I'm doing right now and how I'm going to change. I gotta have a positive mindset and everything.”
