On Feb. 7, Roman Fernandez’s life changed forever. His mother Aimee was struck by a drunk driver while getting his younger sister out of the car. She fought for her life in the hospital for two weeks before passing from her injuries. Roman, just 6 years old at the time, returned to school days later, carrying a quiet strength that has touched his teachers and classmates. His school community has provided love, stability, and support, helping him through an unimaginable loss. Roman’s story is now carried by those around him, a reminder of love, resilience, and the power of community.
“Roman didn’t just lose his mom, because there are all kinds of moms, but he lost one of the best and brightest.” — Richard Fernandez, Roman’s Dad
