5th grade, James Madison Elementary, San Leandro USD
Adam Tobar lights up every room he enters with infectious joy and boundless energy. Diagnosed at age 4 with Hunter Syndrome, a rare and terminal genetic disorder, Adam requires weekly visits to the hospital for enzyme replacement treatments. Yet he greets each day with a smile, determined to connect with everyone around him. Adam’s ability to live fully in the present, sharing his happiness and spreading his light, is a gift that continues to inspire everyone who knows him. He serves as a powerful reminder to cherish every moment and make every day truly count.
“When I think about Adam and I think about his story, his resilience really comes to my mind. ... He continues to be positive, push forward, and just enjoy and honor every day.” – Doris Kwok, San Leandro USD Assistant Director of Special Education.
