12th grade, Pershing Continuation High, Central USD
Stevie-Marie Rendon arrives at school each morning with a smile and a fist bump. You’d never guess she spent four years without a stable place to call home. For a time, she disappeared from school entirely. Then Pershing Continuation High gave her a fresh start, one built on trust, friendship, and a staff that believed in her. She found her footing on the softball field and her voice in the classroom. Today, Stevie-Marie is a high school graduate. This fall, she plans to attend Fresno City College and pursue a career in journalism. Her story is not about what she lost. It’s about everything she’s becoming.
“My advice to students that are in the thick of it is to reach out and don’t be afraid. There’s always someone willing to listen to your story.”
