12th grade, Enterprise High School, Shasta Union HSD
Heaven Torrez learned early that stability could disappear overnight. What remained was school. Through years of homelessness and uncertainty, classrooms became the place where life felt steady, where teachers noticed her and where she began imagining something beyond survival. At Enterprise High School, Heaven grew into a mentor for other students through restorative justice and became a student representative for her district, carrying herself with a quiet resilience shaped by everything she had endured. In June, Heaven graduated from Enterprise High School. She plans to attend Shasta College and become a teacher.
”I’m very proud of myself where I am now because my little 8-year-old self would be so proud of me today.”
