12th grade, El Camino Real High School, Placentia-Yorba Linda USD
Justina Diaz became an adult long before she was ever allowed to be a child. She cared for a mother battling addiction and also helped raise her two siblings. For years, survival meant looking after everyone but herself. By the time she arrived at El Camino Real High School, she had just 40 credits and little reason to believe graduation belonged in her future. But adults there kept showing up. Slowly, Justina did too. She returned after setbacks, found success in class, and began imagining more than survival. Justina earned her diploma and now finally believes her future belongs to her.
“I’m gonna survive, but I’m also gonna do great things.”
