Hesed Castañeda Urbina steps forward when others are still finding their footing. When he arrived from Managua, Nicaragua, in 2024, Hesed faced a new country, a new school and a language he had yet to learn. At Abbott Middle School, he immersed himself in learning, reclassifying as English proficient in just one year. But that is not where his story ends. He chose instead to give it back, supporting other multilingual learners as they found their way. In classrooms and beyond, Hesed leads with openness and care, shaped by gratitude, grounded in service, and determined to help others move forward.
“I’m really proud of myself. But I mostly focus on helping others, and that my story motivates others to keep doing and keep going and never giving up.”
