Numerous families recently participated in CS4NorCal Family Code Night, which was held virtually and in person across six counties in Northern California: Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Plumas, Shasta and Siskiyou.

The families of Surprise Valley, Willow Creek and Dunsmuir Elementary (above) braved the winter weather to attend in person and were rewarded with a warm meal. Dunsmuir Elementary CS teacher Heather O’Conner held a showcase of what her first- through sixth-grade students have learned so far in computer science class.

Other schools in the six-county region invited families to attend virtually. Families took turns completing coding puzzles from code.org and learned “6 Big Ideas in Coding.”

Overall, 90 percent of families that participated reported they were satisfied or very satisfied with this fun event.
