Current and former staff, students and board members from Mountain Oaks School and Calaveras County Office of Education gathered recently for a Founders Day celebration to commemorate the founding of Mountain Oaks School in 1994.
Mountain Oaks School opened its first location in a small two-bedroom house in San Andreas with 38 students. The school received its official designation of Charter School #527 in 2003.
Today, Mountain Oaks, under the direction of the Calaveras County Office of Education, serves approximately 400 students in the counties of Alpine, Amador, San Joaquin, Stanislaus and Tuolumne.
The Founders Day celebration honored the original founders of the school, Linda Mariani and Nancy Stehura, alongside former CCOE Superintendent Bob Bach. A commemorative plaque located on a large boulder in front of the gymnasium and a trident maple tree planted in the quad honor the school’s beginning.
