Learn skills to save the day at HR event
July 1, 2024
How many times has someone in HR saved the day? Maybe it was the time they hired a superstar principal right before school started, or when their communication and collaboration skills helped avert a labor strike?
The planning committee for ACSA’s 2024 Personnel & Negotiations Symposium is saluting these human resources heroes at this year’s conference with the theme: “You can’t spell hero without HR.”
Personnel leaders are often the “unsung heroes” who keep districts running smoothly, said Heather Williams, assistant superintendent of personnel services for the Riverside County Office of Education and chair of the conference planning committee.
“This has become even more true post-pandemic as we address labor shortages, employee matters, concerns with the state budget and bargaining,” she said. “This conference is an opportunity to celebrate the heroes working in personnel and also allow each person the opportunity to hone their skills to even better serve their districts and students.”
New this year, HR professionals will find content relevant to personnel and labor negotiations at the same conference. Previously, ACSA held two events — the Personnel Institute and Negotiators’ Symposium. At the 2024 Personnel & Negotiations Symposium, HR administrators from across the state will find intensive training and opportunities to learn from attorneys and colleagues at a single four-day event.
Williams said the ACSA Human Resources Council will be selecting timely and relevant content on topics such as effective contract language, bargaining tips, current legislation, employee leaves, investigations, Title IX, recruitment strategies, and much more.
“The sessions will have something for everyone, from site administrators interested in venturing into Personnel to the seasoned personnel administrator,” Williams said.
