Maintaining high expectations of herself and others is just part of what inspires Lydia Lugo Dominguez to excel in her role as executive assistant to Superintendent Ana DeGenna of Oxnard School District. A former OSD student, Lugo Dominguez is committed to the school district’s values, which include cultivating an equitable education system for all.
Lugo Dominguez is responsible for the preparation and publication of the Board of Trustees agendas along with other legal documents and records for the district. She ensures they are compliant with district policies, rules and regulations, which helps nurture a safe and inclusive learning environment for every student. In addition to those duties, she uses her communication skills to lead the Superintendent’s Office team in providing customer service to district staff, legislators, parents and others in both the school community and the community at large.
Outside of her job roles, Lugo Dominguez has also served as a PTA parent representative and a member of the District Office Enjoyment and Recreation Society, which raised funds to buy clothing and other items for families in need during the holiday season. She is a member of the Oxnard Education Foundation that supports and promotes academic excellence in Oxnard’s schools in areas where funding is otherwise unavailable.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?
To treat others as I wish to be treated — with respect and empathy.
What’s your best strategy for work-life balance?
Spending quality time with my family and enjoying travel as much as possible are what keep me balanced.
What would people be surprised to learn about you?
That I worked in the fields from the age of 9 to 18 ... that I am an English learner and a migrant student.
What made you want to become a school administrator?
I wanted to be able to give back to the system that provided so many opportunities to me and my siblings.
What’s the biggest challenge you’ve overcome to get where you are?
My own insecurities.
What are you most proud of accomplishing?
Raising three amazing children.
