Support available to members receiving March 15 notices

Each year, 750-800 ACSA members call the Member Assistance and Legal Support Team for assistance on a variety of matters including March 15 Notices (demotion, reassignment, termination), non-reelect notices given to probationary administrators, CTC issues, contract assistance, responding to a negative evaluation, settlement agreements, administrative leave, complaints and investigations. Seven Member Assistance Advocates and nine panel attorneys are available to assist all regular ACSA members.
- Start by calling 1-800-608-2272 and ask for Joanne Godfrey in ACSA’s Ontario office. Members can also make the request online at www.acsa.org/legalsupport.
- Godfrey will assign you to an Advocate.
- If the Advocate determines legal assistance is required, you will be referred to one of nine ACSA panel attorneys.
- You must have been an ACSA member for six months to receive direct legal assistance.
- Level 1 of the legal service is two hours at no cost to you.
- Level 2 of the legal service is up to $1,000 with ACSA paying 60 percent and the member paying 40 percent.
- Level 3 of the legal service is up to $4,000 with ACSA paying 60 percent and the member paying the balance.
- 80 percent of the calls received are taken care of solely by the seven very experienced Advocates.
