Member legal assistance team continues support during pandemic
October 19, 2020
The ACSA Member Assistance & Legal Support Team has continued to serve members on a daily basis throughout the coronavirus pandemic.  In March and April, team members John Almond, Lloyd Wamhof, Janet Morey and Gary Rutherford were scheduled to deliver live presentations in Southern and Central California at two Superintendent Academies. The in-person Academies were canceled due to the pandemic, so the team went to work on developing virtual presentations which they delivered to the Cerritos and Fresno Superintendent Academy participants with the assistance of ACSA Online Learning Executive Janaye Field. The team developed four 15-minute content modules for the participants to view and submit questions well in advance of the live one-hour virtual session.  In addition, the San Joaquin ACSA Charter and all of the charters in Region 6 requested to have a one-hour virtual presentation on administrator rights. John Almond and Lloyd Wamhof delivered the two virtual presentations for 60 ACSA members with outstanding support from the San Joaquin and Region 6 leadership teams. Along with the four Advocates mentioned above, long-standing Advocates Joe Jones, Sharon Dezutti and Bill Tschida have also been very busy responding to member requests for assistance involving a variety of issues. Some of these issues include reassignment, transfers, terminations, complaints, investigations, administrative leave, contract assistance, evaluation concerns, and August 15 layoffs. During the period of March through Sept. 30, all of the Advocates combined assisted 375 members, which required more than 1,200 phone calls.  The team has already scheduled virtual presentations for each of the 2020-21 ACSA Personnel and Superintendent Academies.  This dynamic team, under the direction of ACSA Senior Director of Member Services Margarita Cuizon-Armelino, can be reached by calling 800-608-2272 or by filling out a request form at

. ACSA team member Joanne Godfrey will refer your concern to one of the seven Advocates, and the Advocate will contact you. As we all know, “Leadership Matters” in education, and “ACSA Membership Matters” in order to provide support for today’s educational leaders.
