In response to members’ requests for information about policy, politics and all things government relations, ACSA has launched a new resource, Advocacy in Action. It delivers e-mail updates on topics from the state Capitol, legislation, regulatory and administrative proposals, and also how ACSA is delivering on the One Voice for Students policy platform, which plays a pivotal role in prioritizing the work of ACSA’s grassroots advocacy efforts.
“Our members told us they want more frequent, detailed updates on ACSA’s advocacy efforts,” said Iván Carrillo, senior director of Policy and Government Relations. “Advocacy in Action is a one-stop resource that will keep school leaders informed and ready to engage on the priorities that matter most to ACSA members and the students they serve.”
Advocacy in Action takes its name from ACSA’s end-of-session recap of legislative outcomes based on the One Voice for Students platform. (That recap is now called the Power of One Voice.) To encourage more timely “action” on legislative items, updates will now be provided monthly directly to members’ inboxes. It will complement the existing legislative-focused offerings, such as the ACSA Legislative Lunch Break broadcast, and uplift information relevant for educational leaders in California.
One of the most sought-after updates members request is ACSA’s current position — either “support” or “oppose” — on bills before the state Legislature. Appointees to ACSA’s Legislative Policy Committee and their respective regions and councils have access to this information through their work. Now, Advocacy in Action will provide a link to those bill positions to all ACSA members once positions are finalized this spring, providing yet another opportunity for broader engagement. ACSA members will receive Advocacy in Action via email and it will also be posted at acsa.org/Advocacy.
