Memorial for Delaine Eastin to be held in Sacramento
A public memorial for former State Superintendent of Public Instruction Delaine Eastin will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on June 24 in Sacramento. Eastin, who died April 23 at age 76, served as the top state schools official from 1995 to 2003 and remains the only woman to serve in that office. Through reflection, remembrances, music and community, Eastin will be honored for her contributions to California and many generations to come. As state superintendent, she advocated for reduced class sizes in grades K-3, increased access to technology and famously called for a Garden in Every School. Her legacy lives on through her mentorship and friendship, and her courageous leadership in local, state, national and international realms, which still sets the foundation for public policy in our state. A reception will follow the formal program. The service will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1300 N St. In Sacramento. To RSVP, visit bit.ly/4c0hAfS.
