Students can attend CASC Summer Leadership conference
The CASC Summer Leadership Conference for high school and middle school students and advisors is scheduled at UC Santa Barbara July 25-28, 2022.
“CASC Camp” is a fun, life-changing experience for all students who want to lead in their schools, communities and beyond. Advisors, activities directors and staff are also welcome to participate in the special track tailored for educators. Take home the leadership skills necessary to transform your student council and solve the problems you see in your school.
This inspirational, skilled-based program focuses on teamwork, conflict management, interactive meeting skills, presentation skills and project planning in its core curriculum. Students work in small groups led by peer trainers to develop their skills. Robert Pruitt will keynote the program.
The program is open to any student regardless of whether he or she currently holds a leadership position. Seminars cover ideas for successful activities and general sessions motivate students to set a positive tone on their campuses. Scholarships are also available and are based on verification of family income.

Register for HSE Summer Convenings in August
The CDE Proficiency, Equivalency, and Physical Testing Office is hosting a no-cost, in-person, three-session training series this August: the High School Equivalency Summer Convenings. These sessions will be key for HSE chief examiners, HSE test site administrators, high school counselors and others who have a connection to this alternate route for students. The sessions, which will be presented by the CDE, the HiSET Program and GED Testing Services, will be held at various locations throughout the state. The 2022 HSE Summer Convenings flier provides more information about this HSE professional development opportunity. This flier can be forwarded to school site staff who may benefit from the information. Library evaluation tool available through Aug. 31
The CDE has created an online data collection evaluation tool to meet the Education Code requirement and develop an accurate picture of the condition of school libraries throughout the state. The annual online evaluation is open to collect information from individual schools about their libraries in 2020–21. It will be active through Wednesday, August 31, 2022.
