Napa County Office of Education held its second annual Black History Month Student Oratorical Contest on Feb. 26.
Sixteen students between grades 4-12 from schools around Napa County performed pieces written by influential Black figures such as Obama and Maya Angelou, or performed their own writing. Black History Month oratorical contests are public speaking competitions where students showcase their skills while honoring and celebrating the rich history, culture and contributions of Black Americans.
This competition was developed by staff members in NCOE’s Community of Belonging, which works to ensure equitable, inclusive and safe learning and work environments that celebrate the children, families and staff.
