Site leaders see firsthand how decisions made in Sacramento affect students, staff and school communities. This fall, ACSA’s Principals Playbook series will help site leaders better understand the policy and political developments shaping public schools and how they can play a stronger role in influencing them.

Each episode will break down timely legislative, policy and political issues, explain what they mean for schools and highlight opportunities for ACSA members to communicate with lawmakers.

“Site leaders experience the impact of state and federal policy every day, which means their voices need to inform the decisions being made,” said Iván Carrillo, ACSA Senior Director of Policy and Governmental Relations. “Principals Playbook will give site leaders the information and context they need to understand what’s happening in Sacramento and in D.C., and help them use their experiences and stories to influence policy outcomes.”

The next Principals Playbook will be held from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, as California enters the final stage of the legislative process.

The session will focus on key ACSA legislative priorities awaiting action by the governor, including ACSA-sponsored legislation providing greater flexibility in the use of 70-day substitutes. Participants will hear what is at stake, where legislation stands and how site leaders can engage.
