R7: General Membership Assembly hosts Carrillo
Region 7 held its first General Membership Assembly of the year, a pivotal event that convenes educational leaders and stakeholders from across the region. This year’s assembly featured guest speaker Iván Carrillo, ACSA senior director of State and Federal Governmental Relations. He provided an insightful update on the current governmental landscape in Sacramento, detailing various assembly and senate bills that could impact education in the region. His extensive knowledge and experience enriched the discussion, helping attendees understand the implications of these legislative developments.

R14: Charter presidents and new admins meet for breakfast
On Nov. 1, ACSA Region 14 hosted a breakfast at Dignity Health Sports Park for charter presidents and new administrators across the region. This event offered a fantastic opportunity to network and learn more about ACSA, Region 14, and its local charters.
The highlight of the morning was a panel featuring distinguished Region 14 district administrators, including:
  • Eveline Huh, director of Special Programs, ABCUSD (Region 14 secretary).
  • Nick Stephany, assistant superintendent, HR, Redondo Beach USD.
  • Brian Markarian, superintendent, Hawthorne SD (Region 14 at-large director).
  • Linsey Gotanda, deputy superintendent, Paramount USD (Region 14 past president).
  • Jason Johnson, superintendent, El Segundo USD.
The panelists addressed a range of questions, sharing insights from their early days as administrators to what they currently prioritize when hiring for administrative positions.
The region was also honored to welcome ACSA President Rafael Plascencia, who opened the event with inspiring remarks.
Overall, it was a valuable morning of learning and connection, celebrating Region 14’s 2024-25 theme of “Creating Community.”
