R16: Region holds Cultural Proficiency Conference
ACSA Region 16 hosted their first Cultural Proficiency Conference on March 27 at the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles.
The conference was the brainchild of Region 16 Cultural Proficiency Director Simone Charles and Region 16 Special Events Coordinator Angel J. Barrett.
In August 2021, the Region 16 Executive Board voted to add three board positions to reflect the Board’s values: Cultural Proficiency, Women in Leadership (Sandra Escartin) and Communications (Maria Manzo).

R12: Administrators of the Year announced
Region 12 has completed evaluations and made a final determination of the winners in its 2022 Administrator of the Year Awards.
In addition to the winners listed below, Region 12 hopes to fete its first-ever recipient of the Dr. Margaret Hill Social Justice Award (TBA) at its region Spring Celebration Awards Dinner on May 2, 2022 at the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario.

R5: Award winners celebrated at ceremony
Region 5 celebrated its Administrators of the Year during an awards ceremony March 23 at the Basque Cultural Center in South San Francisco.
ACSA officers were also sworn in for their new terms.

R15: Thompson chosen as district Woman of the Year
State Sen. Susan Rubio (D-Baldwin Park) has named Maria Thompson as Woman of the Year in the education subcategory for Senate District 22. Thompson was honored in March to coincide with National Women’s History Month. Thompson is director of Student Services, Equity, Access, Outreach & Innovation in the Charter Oak Unified School District. She also sits on ACSA’s Board of Directors representing Region 15. She has worked in the education field for over 34 years and strives to supply students with tools for success in their academic careers.
