R16: Superintendent visits early education admins
LAUSD Superintendent Alberto Carvalho visited with LAUSD’s Organization of Early Education Center Administrators at their year-end recognition of their administrators and retirees on May 20, 2022 at Almansor Court.
State ACSA and ACSA Region 16 helped sponsor the event featuring principals of Early Education Centers in LAUSD’s Early Childhood Education Division.
“We truly appreciate the support of ACSA Region 16. We are so thankful for all the resources and information that Ms. (Moohay) Choe and Dr. (Tracy) Eagle provide to us. We would also like to send a very special thank you to Dr. (Alice) Petrossian for her support this year,” said OEECA President Scarlett Ramirez Holguin. “We look forward to attending and participating in future ACSA events as well as encouraging our colleagues to become a member of the ACSA family!”

R7: Administrators of the Year honored at spring conference
Region 7 held its annual spring conference in South Lake Tahoe, which had the highest attendance in over 20 years. The region celebrated its ACSA region award winners, ACSA’s 50th birthday, and provided professional development opportunities with keynote speakers and breakout sessions. Attendees even celebrated the Kentucky Derby with a hat contest and raised funds for the region’s student scholarships.
The following individuals were honored as Region 7’s Administrators of the Year:
Superintendent of the Year: Terry Chevalier-Metzger, Superintendent, Denair USD. Superintendent/Principal of the Year: Wynette Hilton, Superintendent/Principal, Big Oak Flat Groveland USD.
Secondary Principal of the Year: Michael Shroyer, Principal, Grace Davis HS, Modesto City Schools. Middle Grades Principal of the Year: Heather Sharp, Principal, Sebastian Questa Elementary School (K-8), Lammersville USD. Elementary Principal of the Year: Steve Merchant, Principal, Samuel Vaughn Elementary School, Ceres USD. Central Office Administrator of the Year: County/District: Heather Contreras, Assistant Superintendent, School Leadership, Modesto City Schools. Secondary Co-Administrator of the Year: Rogelio Adame, Associate Principal, Central Valley HS, Ceres USD. Elementary Co-Administrator of the Year: Jason Strickland, Vice Principal, Sebastian Questa Elementary School, Lammersville USD. Classified Leader of the Year: Angela Zeoli, Director I, Purchasing, Modesto City Schools. Confidential Employee of the Year: Velma Silva, Executive Assistant to the Superintendent, Sylvan Union SD. Personnel/Human Resources Administrator of the Year: Diolinda (Didi) Peterson, Assistant Superintendent, Human Resources, Sylvan Union SD. Special Education Administrator of the Year: Christi Allan, Senior Director, SELPA, Secondary Special Education, Modesto City Schools. Student Services Administrator of the Year: Tracy Manzoni, Executive Director of Student Services, Patterson Jt. USD. Curriculum & Instruction Administrator of the Year: Heather Sherburn, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction & Technology, Lammersville USD. Continuation/Educational Options Administrator of the Year: Felipe Meraz, Principal, Roselawn Continuation HS, Turlock USD. Technology Administrator of the Year: Troy Ashton, Division Director II, Infrastructure, Tuolumne County Superintendent of Schools. Retired Administrator of the Year: Cindy Murray, Empire Union SD. Elementary Board Member of the Year (Region 7 Award): Loretta Stein, Board President, Empire Union SD. Bob Price Distinguished Service Award (Region 7 Award): Mark Campbell, Superintendent, Calaveras USD. Bill Ullom Award (Region 7 Award): Philip Alfano, Superintendent, Patterson Jt. USD.
Steve Merchant and his wife won the Kentucky Derby hat contest held during the Region 7 conference. Merchant is also the region’s Elementary Principal of the year.
