R15: Region encourages leaders to ‘Make Your Mark’
ACSA Deputy Executive Director Margarita Cuizon-Armelino and Senior Director, State and Federal Governmental Relations Iván Carrillo participated in the retreat as guest speakers and shared insightful knowledge that contributed to the region’s theme “Make Your Mark.”
The retreat also focused on professional development through work-life balance, highlighting the importance of prioritizing self-care to be fully present for our students and school communities. Networking opportunities included a Goosechase scavenger hunt where charter leaders in randomly selected teams set out in Ventura to complete challenges, collaborate and build new relationships.
Breakout training sessions allowed charter leaders to better understand their roles and provided opportunities to ask questions and work with other charter leaders, sharing new ideas for the upcoming year. A first-time retreat participant expressed appreciation for “breaking up the groups to focus on the area we will be supporting this year and learning the different areas of ACSA at local, charter, region and state levels.”
Additional retreat activities included installing the 2023-24 officers, casino night, and highlighting Region 15 goals and Strategic Plan.
An outstanding balance of work and fun, the purpose of the Region 15 retreat is to equip charter leaders to serve in their roles for the upcoming year, ensure they have the knowledge and resources they need to excel, and provide a forum to discuss topics of importance for the region. The retreat concluded with a slideshow showcasing weekend highlights and announcing the grand prize raffle drawing winner of a fully paid registration for the upcoming ACSA Leadership Summit in November.
“I truly value being part of our region’s work and being a voice to support our students at the school, district, and state levels,” said Region 15 President Collin Miller. “This retreat is a testament to administrators who are all in for their students, staff and communities.”
