Guidance: CDC Interim Guidance for reopening schools
In May, the CDC issued interim guidance for reopening schools. The guidance, which is contained in the document “Activities and Initiatives Supporting the COVID-19 Response and the President’s Plan for Opening America Up Again,” advises on promoting measures to limit the spread of the virus, including healthy hygiene, disinfecting surfaces, limiting sharing and monitoring symptoms.  Website:

Workbook: Charting the Course Forward
Even as they work on a safe and smooth reopening, districts must have contingency plans in place for student support, operations and human resources, and organizational leadership to be prepared for potential new challenges (such as a second outbreak). Hanover Research has developed this new workbook, “Charting the Course Forward: Planning Your District Reopening Strategy Amid COVID-19,” which provides interactive guides and checklists to help district leaders formulate and implement these plans at different stages of the upcoming school year.  Resource Hub:

Resource: Summer meals
School district closures due to the COVID-19 health crisis put millions of low-income California children at risk of hunger as a result of discontinued access to school breakfast and lunch programs. To maximize support for students and their families, district and county office leaders can take a number of steps to reduce hunger. Institute: Leading with Emotional Intelligence in Uncertain Times
As school communities adapt to changes influenced by the COVID-19 outbreak, the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence is committed to helping district leaders in their effort to build and sustain positive emotional climates during these challenging times. “Leading with Emotional Intelligence in Uncertain Times: A District-Wide Approach” is a five-day leadership development institute for superintendents, directors, network heads, and other district-level administrators designed to leverage the skills and tools of emotional intelligence as a leader; manage high-stakes decisions with emotional intelligence; and rebuild communities during and after the COVID crisis. District teams of three to five people may apply.
