Resources for celebrating Arab American heritage
April 14, 2025
ACSA’s Arab American Administrators Network has curated resources for understanding Arab American history, culture and contributions. These resources are available at bit.ly/ArabAmerPadlet.
Celebrating Arab American heritage promotes understanding, inclusion and appreciation while challenging stereotypes and bigotry. Here are a few facts to consider:
- Arab Americans come from countries that are part of the League of Arab States, including Algeria, Qatar, Bahrain, Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, Iraq and Yemen.
- Arabic is the primary language that connects Arab Americans, uniting them through a shared history and diverse cultures.
- With an estimated 3.7 million Arab Americans in the U.S., California has the largest population. There is a need for better data collection by having Arab Americans be able to choose this designation on the U.S. Census.
- Over half of Arab Americans are estimated to be Christian despite a common misconception — not all Arabs are Muslim, nor are all Muslims from the Middle East and North Africa.
- Arab Americans have shaped the U.S. through groundbreaking contributions in science, medicine, business, education and the arts.
