Castle Rock Elementary students had fun while helping others during the Cereal Box Domino Challenge held on May 10.
Third grade classes at the IB World School sponsored the event as an action for the Forces and Motion planner. For the culminating physics activity, all students were asked to bring in an unopened box of cereal. At 8:30 a.m., the children began strategically lining up the boxes to create a giant domino chain.
“Students were quick to make sure the spacing of the boxes was perfect, and some even brought out rulers!” shared third grade teacher Michelle Boots.
At Principal Elizabeth Chang’s signal, students counted down and the first boxes were pushed over beginning a double ripple that weaved through the campus. Students screamed and cheered as the chain of falling cereal boxes passed by their classrooms. In total, 502 boxes of cereal were collected and delivered to a local food bank.
“I’m so proud of our IB citizens,” Chang said.
