In the Walnut Valley Unified School District, Vejar Elementary first grade “postal workers” are getting ready to deliver over 2,000 Valentine’s Day cards to classmates this week.
Teachers Carolyn Campbell, Lisa Gomez, Kaylie Mitchell, and Brenda Moscoso created an innovative dramatic play opportunity as part of the social studies unit on American Symbols. The children made stamps to be sold at the little Post Office located outside Room 13. And for the first two weeks in February, classes are taking turns “working” to sort and date the stacks of pink, red, and white letters.
“They are learning through experience and having a blast!” said teacher Campbell.
