Second-graders in Lodi Unified School District had the honor of naming a new surgical robot at Adventist Health Lodi Memorial Hospital.
The hospital held a contest asking Lodi USD students to name the new robot. Danielle Williams’ second grade class at John Muir Elementary School submitted an entry for “Roz” — which is the name of the robot protagonist from the book, “The Wild Robot.”
In their submission explaining why they chose the name, the class said: “Roz is caring, helpful, and brave. She’s heroic. If a patient is familiar with the book (or movie), they would find comfort in knowing Roz is helping them.”
As the winning class, the second-graders recently had the opportunity to tour the hospital, meet doctors and staff, and learn how “Roz” the robot works.
