Have some extra time now that school is out? Make sure to put professional development on your summer bucket list.
ACSA has several professional learning opportunities in the next few months that can help education leaders advance their learning. Many of these offerings have minimal time commitments, leaving plenty of time for you to relax and recharge before the new school year.
HR Boot Camp: Surviving the First Year
This workshop is designed for administrators, classified managers and other support staff who are new to Human Resources or interested in learning about the role and function of the Human Resources Department. Participants will benefit from this comprehensive overview of the myriad of tasks and responsibilities of the Human Resources Office. The presentation will include a detailed calendar of events, procedures related to Human Resources and a Human Resources Self‐Assessment Instrument.
Participants will learn to describe the functions performed by the HR Office and identify the various public stakeholders with whom the HR Office must interact and what results may be expected from those interactions. They’ll also become familiar with recent legislative and case law changes, as well as how to monitor critical timelines.

ACSA Leadership Coaching
ACSA Leadership Coaching emphasizes the importance of building and maintaining trust, the value of being a good listener, and the use of questioning strategies to promote reflection and growth in educational leaders.
The program uses the Evocative Coaching model, which was developed by Bob and Megan Tschannen-Moran. Evocative Coaching uses a person-centered, no fault, strengths-based approach to move people toward their desired destination.
When coaches trust and practice the four movements in Evocative Coaching, they increase their ability to make significant contributions to the professional development of teachers and leaders, and to the learning climate of schools. While this training is required for anyone who wants to become a coach in ACSA’s Clear Administrative Credential Program, it is also beneficial for any school leader who coaches administrators, teachers or staff, including:
  • Coaches of beginning and experienced school administrators.
  • Coaches serving in school leadership training programs and administrative services training programs.
  • Instructors in educational administrative pre-service programs.
  • Coaches of teacher leaders.
  • Individuals responsible for designing and implementing professional development.
  • District leaders responsible for school leadership.
