School district and county office superintendents gathered for the 2022 Superintendents’ Symposium Jan. 26-28 in Indian Wells. It was the first in-person symposium for superintendents since 2020.
Leaders had a chance to hear an update and insights on Gov. Gavin Newsom’s state budget proposal during a panel moderated by ACSA Vice President Parvin Ahmadi and featuring John Gray from School Services of California, Kevin Gordon from Capitol Advisors, and ACSA Senior Director of Governmental Relations Edgar Zazueta.
Keynote Sean Covey spoke to attendees live at the event, while keynotes MJ Hegar and john a. powell spoke to attendees in the general session room via livestream.
On Thursday, incoming LAUSD Superintendent Alberto Carvalho spoke to ACSA Senior Director of Marketing and Communications Naj Alikhan and his fellow superintendents at a fireside chat. Carvalho was previously superintendent of Miami-Dade County Public Schools.
ACSA recognized the following retiring superintendents during a Thursday luncheon: Don Davis of Waterford USD, Lillian French of Mountain View School District, Pat Kelley of Murrieta Valley USD, Michelle Murphy of Rim of the World USD, Phil Alfano of Patterson Joint USD, Carol Hansen of Ocean View School District, Jason Peplinski of Simi Valley USD, Jinane Annous of Mission Union School District and Scott Bailey of Coachella Valley USD.
