Beloved Superintendent and friend Guadalupe Roman passed away Nov. 25, 2020. He was 57 years old. He will be missed by the entire Terra Bella Union Elementary School District community, staff, students and friends.
Roman was a former Terra Bella School student. During his 30 years of employment with Terra Bella, Roman was a substitute teacher, 6th grade teacher, Carl F. Smith Middle School Vice Principal, Principal, and Superintendent. Roman was active with his community church, Tulare County Small School District and was a member of ACSA. Roman always put the interest of the students and families first. His smiling face and his willingness to listen, solve problems, and encourage staff, students and community members will be missed greatly.
Los Angeles Unified School District congratulates Adaina Brown’s appointment as Superintendent of Local District West in the Los Angeles Unified School District. Brown brings a demonstrated track record of success as a Community of Schools Administrator from Local District South, Director and Principal. Her commitment to students and their families will serve her well in this new role. Brown’s journey has been featured on ABC7 News titled: Teen mom’s journey to becoming one of LAUSD’s chief educators.
LAUSD also wishes to recognize Karen Mercado as the new Administrator of Instruction for Local District West in the Los Angeles Unified School District. Mercado has served as a former A-G Director and Principal.

Joseph Nieto III has been made Executive Director of Early Care and Education for the Riverside County Office of Education. He previously served as Coordinator, Early Childhood and Family Education, at Riverside Unified School District.
