The Salinas Union High School District Board of Trustees has unanimously selected Zandra Jo Galván, who has served the Greenfield Union School District since 2017, as their next Superintendent of Schools.
Galván brings a total of 31 years of educational experience, including eight years as superintendent. She has led school districts as an administrator for the last 18 years and has served as a teacher, academic coach, administrator, director of curriculum, and assistant superintendent. She holds several degrees, including a master of arts degree in K-12 curriculum and instruction from CSU Monterey Bay, a master of arts degree in K-12 School Administration and administrative credential from San Jose State, and a doctorate degree in K-12 educational leadership from the University of Southern California. She hopes to carry out what the governance team has already set forth as ambitious goals in areas such as English language arts, mathematics, increased graduation rates, and post-secondary success, while also prioritizing the social and emotional well-being of both students and staff.
Galván was born in Salinas, grew up in Greenfield, and is the youngest of six children. Her parents came to California from Texas in 1964 to work in the agricultural industry. Galván is married and has three teenage children.
