Tim Liles, a longtime Fresno educator and beloved Principal of Sunnyside High School in Fresno, died on Sept. 22, 2020. Liles’ career in Fresno Unified School District spanned over 28 years in various roles with majority of those years being a Wildcat. He always said, “Once a Wildcat, always a Wildcat!” Liles made his initial impact in the Wildcat community as the student Activities Director, then as the Campus Culture Director and ultimately was named principal in 2012. Liles served as the President of ACSA Fresno Consolidated Charter.   In 2019, Liles was named Person of the Year by the Fresno City Council. He will be remembered as the ultimate cheerleader for his students, staff and colleagues — he constantly focused on celebrating their successes and personal achievements. He always led with his heart and saw the best in everyone and in every situation. Liles served as the lead administrator in the Sunnyside Region in collaboration with eight elementary and two middle school administrators. He was committed to creating a sense of community for his students in the third largest district in the state. Liles’ efforts, commitments, and enthusiasm have served as a guiding light for the leaders in the region who are committed to living out his legacy.
