Long-time educator, administrator, and ACSA member Sharon R. Millen (McClung) passed away on Dec. 15, 2023, after a long battle with frontotemporal dementia. Born Nov. 18, 1943, in Watonga, Okla., Millen was the second of three children born to Ted and Marjorie Eberhardt. She grew up in Oklahoma and earned a bachelor’s degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University. She moved to California in 1965.
Millen was a teacher and principal for almost 40 years. She taught at Sage Academy in Palmdale, earned a master’s degree at Pepperdine University then served as principal in the Castaic, Keppel and Saugus school districts. She served in many leadership positions at state and regional levels for ACSA. She was described as a force of nature who worked relentlessly for children.
Millen and her husband, David G. Millen, were inspirational educators and leaders. David was a long-time administrator and ACSA member. After David’s tragic passing at 59 in 2004 from Lou Gehrig’s disease, Sharon carried on his legacy, honoring him and his mentoring ideals through the ACSA Region 15 David G. Millen Mentoring Scholarship. Each year, the region presents the award and a $1,000 scholarship to leaders demonstrating David’s mentorship ideals. The recipient awards the scholarship to an aspiring administrator chosen by the awardee.
Millen served in numerous roles with ACSA Region 15. She was Director of Public Relations (1996-1997), Vice President of Legislative Action (1997-1999), State Chair of the Elementary Education Council (1999-2002), Region Consultant (2004-2006), and RACSAM Charter President (2009-2010). Millen was the recipient of many awards and accolades, including ACSA Elementary Principal of the Year (1995), Bob Gray Award (2003), and RACSAM Charter Leadership Award (2011).
Millen believed in philanthropy and giving back to education. Below is information for a memorial scholarship in her honor. The scholarship is to be awarded to students pursuing careers in education, nursing or law enforcement.

Jonathon Brunson joined ACSA as a membership recruiter in January. Brunson recently retired as the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources at Milpitas USD in Region 8, where he served as the HR Council Chair, Legislative Policy Committee Chair, and was a mentor in ACSA’s Mentor Program. Before that he served as President for Regions 2 and 3 and later also became the State ACSA Board of Director for Region 3.
