The Walnut Valley USD Board of Trustees appointed alumna Elizabeth Chang as the new principal at Castle Rock Elementary School during the February 15 meeting.
For the past two and a half years, Chang has served as Assistant Principal at Diamond Bar High School, her alma mater. Prior to that, she was assistant principal at Chino High School for two years. Chang began her professional career in the district serving 15 years as an educational specialist at several schools, including Castle Rock Elementary.
The dedicated educational leader looks forward to providing guidance to Castle Rock students and staff through an equitable, inclusive and safe learning environment.
She will succeed retired administrator and former Castle Rock principal Jackie Brown, who has been serving as interim principal this year. As a capstone to this heartwarming story, Brown was also Chang’s third grade teacher at Walnut Elementary School.
Brown presented her former student with a keepsake class photo during Chang’s introduction to the school in February.
Chang holds a bachelor’s degree from University of California, San Diego, master’s degree from California State University, Los Angeles, and doctoral degree from California State University, Fullerton.
ACSA Senior Administrative Clerk Michael Dawson retired from ACSA at the end of January.
He came to ACSA as a temporary employee and officially joined ACSA as a full-time employee in 2000, working out of the Burlingame office.
Dawson served as ACSA’s Event Registrar, facilitating more than 8,000 registrations a year. He provided an important customer service role by processing registrations, changes and cancellations on the event side and ensuring accurate information was reflected in ACSA’s payment collection systems. These duties meant Dawson fielded more phone calls than anyone else in the organization.
A musician, avid photographer and nature-lover, Dawson plans to continue these pursuits in retirement.
