ACSA Membership Operations Director Carlota Cabrera is retiring in May following a 24-year career with ACSA.
Cabrera began her journey with ACSA in 2002 as a Member Benefits Associate staff and had the opportunity to grow through several rewarding roles over the years, including supervising the Membership Processing Unit and serving as Director of Membership Operations. For more than a decade, she also served as the staff liaison to the Region Consultants — now known as the Directors of Region Operations — building strong relationships and collaborating closely with leaders throughout the state.
“What has made Carlota especially valued at ACSA is the way she leads. She has always led with humility, never seeking recognition for herself and always putting the needs of members and the organization first,” said ACSA Deputy Executive Director Margarita Cuizon-Armelino. “Her calm, unassuming leadership style created space for collaboration, encouraged others to step up, and helped build trust across teams. That kind of leadership leaves a lasting mark on an organization, and ACSA is stronger because of it.” Cabrera said some of her proudest accomplishments at ACSA include mentoring, encouraging, and supporting others, while continuing to grow professionally and adapt to new challenges and opportunities. She helped the association navigate two major management system transitions and worked closely with cross-functional teams to help guide the organization through change. Throughout the years, Cabrera has served as a trusted resource for staff, region leaders, and members by providing guidance, problem-solving, and institutional knowledge.
“What I will miss most is the people and the incredible sense of purpose that comes with the work we do,” Cabrera said. “Being surrounded by passionate educators, leaders, and colleagues who are deeply committed to supporting our members has made every day meaningful.”
She also said she would miss the daily connections, shared laughter, and teamwork with her coworkers, many of whom have become friends over the years.
During retirement, Cabrera plans to spend more time with her husband and her family, especially creating lasting memories with her grandchildren. She also plans to “rediscover creative passions” including painting, playing piano, and gardening. She hopes to continue learning new things, explore new hobbies, and say “yes” more often to spontaneous opportunities.
“I’m excited for slower mornings with coffee and no alarm clock, new travel adventures with my husband, and the simple joy of having more time to relax and appreciate everyday moments,” she said. “Most of all, I look forward to embracing a balanced, fulfilling, and joyful new chapter in life.”
