Castro Valley USD Superintendent and ACSA Past President Parvin Ahmadi will retire on July 1 following a 36-year career in education.
Ahmadi began her career as a teacher in San Jose for 10 years before moving to Fremont USD and embarking on an administrative career that included roles as a vice principal, principal, director and assistant superintendent. She spent five years as superintendent of the Pleasanton USD before accepting the position of superintendent at Castro Valley USD in 2015.
The Castro Valley Unified School District Board of Education expressed its gratitude to Ahmadi for leading the district to a more diverse and equitable place.
“For the past 10 years, she has guided our district with vision, integrity, and a steadfast commitment to student success, community engagement, and fostered a high performing district sought after by families and employees alike. Her leadership strengthened our schools, expanded opportunities for students, and fostered a culture of excellence and inclusion,” said Board President Dolly Adams. “She is a leader and recognized among her peers in the State of California, often providing valuable advice to leaders in Sacramento and beyond.”
Ahmadi was elected ACSA vice president in 2021 and served as president in 2023-24, focusing her presidency on social justice and ensuring every student has the right support to succeed.
Ahmadi, who recently welcomed her first grandchild, plans on spending time with her granddaughter and children, and continuing her service in public education by teaching at the university level, supporting educators, and advocating for children and public education.
“I have absolutely loved every minute of the entire journey, including serving children the last 10 years in Castro Valley, a place where compassion, connection and humanity brings people together,” Ahmadi wrote in a message to the community. “Working with the most amazing team of professionals in CVUSD has been an absolute pleasure, and I have complete confidence that our students, staff and district will continue to shine as a place of belonging and educational excellence for years to come.”
The end of the school year will be the end of an era with the retirement of Dr. Daniel Hacking, secondary director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment for Arcadia Unified School District.
Hacking first started his career teaching social science at John Burroughs High School in the Burbank Unified School District in 1990.
After being promoted to principal at John Muir Middle School in 2003, where he was for seven years, Hacking made the journey to Arcadia in 2010 when he was named the Principal of Dana Middle School, a position he held for 11 years before being promoted to the Secondary Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment.
Dr. Angela Dillman, who spent the last seven years as the principal of Arcadia High School, will succeed Hacking at the district office.
