Virtual sisterhood

June 8, 2020
School administrators were empowered to lead after attending ACSA’s first-ever virtual conference, the 2020 Sisterhood Symposium held May 16.

With the state’s shelter-in-place order prohibiting large gatherings to prevent the spread of coronavirus, symposium planners had to quickly re-imagine the event as a virtual gathering. Conference attendees said the uplifting messages from strong female voices in school leadership were “so needed in this time of isolation and crisis.”

Opening remarks from ACSA President Linda Kaminski set the tone for the day, which included breakout sessions with titles such as “Leading From Your Core Values” and “Making Yourself Marketable.”

“The content struck a very personal chord for myself and everyone,” said an attendee of another session, “Dismantling the Imposter Syndrome: You Deserve to Be in the Room.”

There was also a virtual coffee hour that allowed attendees to get to know the names and faces of other virtual conference attendees. Attendees also had an opportunity to take an active movement break by doing yoga or a guided meditation.

“I absolutely loved the supportive and affirmative environment among women!” wrote one attendee. “I felt like I gained scores of sisters!”
