Choose ACSA’s next leader — VP nominations are due Sept. 6
July 29, 2019
The nomination window for vice president of ACSA for 2020-21 is now open, with a deadline of Sept. 6, 2019. The office of vice president is seen as key in helping set the direction of the association, as it is the direct route to the presidency. “The nomination window for ACSA state vice president has officially opened, and I highly encourage any eligible member who has considered this role to take the opportunity in hand and apply,” said ACSA Past President Holly Edds. “The unique nature of our organization and leadership structure provides the vice president with great opportunities to help shape and refine how ACSA continues to serve leaders and students throughout California, and the nation.”  Duties and responsibilities of the vice president include:
  • Attend all board meetings.
  • Know the association and the board president’s duties.
  • Be prepared to perform the board president’s duties when called upon.
  • Serve on the Executive Committee.
  • Chair the association’s Finance Committee.
  • Work closely as a consultant and advisor to the board president.
  • Develop rapport and a close working relationship with the executive director and board president.
  • Carry out special assignments from the board president.
A major responsibility of the vice president is to serve in the place of the president-elect or president during their absence, or to assume the office of president-elect should it become vacant.
To prepare for this role, service on the Board of Directors, Leadership Assembly or as region president or state chairperson is preferable. Candidates representing all regions are encouraged to apply. The VP Nominating Committee will also work to solicit enough candidates to ensure a balanced slate.  “Our organization plays a critical role in shaping education policy at the state and federal level, as well as supporting our members so they have the opportunity to create magic in their schools and districts for students each and every day,” said Edds, who will chair the VP nominating committee. “The opportunity to serve as a state officer has been absolutely incredible, not only for me personally and for ACSA, but also for my district. I was able to share stories that affect my students with state and federal leaders, to put a face to decisions they are making. The training, support, and knowledge you gain as a result of this position are invaluable and have made me a better leader. I truly wish every member of ACSA had this experience so they could see the difference we make.”  The nomination form is at
