Victoria Webber, ACSA’s 2024 Classified Leader of the Year, continues to exemplify the impact of outstanding leadership in a supporting role. As executive assistant to the superintendent and Board of Education at Laguna Beach USD since 2013, Webber has worked to empower and celebrate classified staff as well as students, serving as a champion for underrepresented voices in the district and community.
As a direct conduit between the district and school board, Webber has spearheaded bi-annual recognition events for students and staff, strengthening the connection between the district, board and community. She works closely with the Superintendent’s Student Advisory members, attending regular meetings throughout the year between students and district leadership. Her advocacy for inclusive policies, language and initiatives reflects her dedication to creating learning environments where all students can succeed and feel heard and included.
Webber takes her professional responsibility for ensuring compliance to policies, codes and laws to the next level, not only through meticulous reviews and updates, but also by working to influence statewide legislation and policy. She has served as one of three district safety commission chairs for the past seven years, effectively campaigning for training and continuous improvements. These include providing STOP THE BLEED Kits at all district sites, working with local first responders to refine the safety plan and initiating annual Emergency Operations Center drills.
An active member of ACSA, Webber has presented at and planned conferences; advocated for school funding, legislation, and policies on the Legislative Policy Committee; served as a charter and region leader; and represented Region 17 on the state level in multiple committees and councils. She is currently the LBUSD Charter Region President and the region representative for the Classified Leaders Council. In her professional networks, district and community, Webber is committed to lifelong learning and service to others. She created monthly peer learning sessions, giving administrative staff from across the district the opportunity to share best practices, fostering a collaborative culture that prioritizes innovative strategies for improvement.
“Victoria’s professional journey reflects her strong ethical values, exceptional leadership qualities, and a deep-rooted passion for education,” wrote Laguna Beach USD Superintendent Jason Viloria. “Her contributions have not only been beneficial to the institutions she has served but also inspirational to her colleagues and the community at large.”
What’s your favorite quote on leadership? “Influence and inspiration come from the person, not the position.” — Mark Sanborn, “You Don’t Need a Title to Be a Leader: How Anyone, Anywhere, Can Make a Positive Difference”
What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given? Listen to the message beyond the spoken words, including body language and tone to give you the whole picture before you respond.
What are some life hacks that you would recommend for a new administrator? Foster an environment where you can comfortably ask for help, expect others to ask for help, and share your work for mutual benefit to leverage your team’s expertise.
What do you want us to know about you? My guiding life principle at work and at home is to lead by serving others. I strive to be someone known for honesty, strong ethics, and a clear moral compass; and, I value fairness and objectivity. I hope people also see my lighter side, including my sense of humor and my love for my family, which includes my four-legged ones.
What is your career philosophy? I am committed to continuous growth and measurable contributions in every role I undertake. I believe that leadership is about the impact you make, not the title or position held.
What are you most proud of accomplishing? Driven by the belief that learning has no age limit, and knowledge is the most effective way to move forward, I earned my bachelor’s degree at an older-than-average age. This accomplishment wasn’t just a personal milestone, but a strategic investment that opened doors to new career opportunities and allowed me to take on greater challenges in my field.
How has ACSA supported you in your career/current position? My involvement with ACSA has provided me with valuable opportunities for professional development, networking, advocacy efforts and leadership development at the charter, region and state levels. I believe that these experiences have contributed to and enhanced my professional career.
